projects | the ugly doll

DSC_0637

“Don’t be ugly.” My grandma used to say that all the time when I was growing up. She wasn’t referring to our appearance. She was reminding us to act right. If my cousins and I started fussing over a toy or we forgot to say thank you, she’d say, “Don’t be ugly!” I made these dolls with various script to sell through jofa12 at festivals. They’re funny looking. They’re.. well, ugly. A silly reminder of how ugly I look when I’m unforgiving, selfish, unthankful… Thanks, Grandma.
